In our previous blog post, we explained how a restaurant can save on its energy expenses by controlling its before and after hours consumption. We tried explaining how restaurants usually divide their daily operations into setup hours, customer hours, cleaning hours and closing hours. Recognizing wastages in each time zone, recording and sticking to their optimum consumption a restaurant was able to save 10% every month on their electricity bills.

When we launched our energy optimization solution we were driven by a single purpose- to help restaurants increase their profits by cutting down on their monthly operating cost on electricity. Controlling after hours consumption is just one of the many ways restaurants can reduce their electricity bills.

Global restaurant brands spend a huge amount of energy on storage, preparation, cooking and cooling. After having identified wastage of electricity in each of the time zones for one of our clients and setting up strict protocols for before and after hours consumption, we could still identify scope for further reduction.

We have been told all of our lives that the power of good habit can ultimately yield its own rewards. Similarly changing energy consumption habits by sticking to a routine also translates to reduced energy bills for your restaurant. How do we help you do that? By finding your best power day and helping you track and follow your optimal consumption pattern.

Let me try and break down the feature a little more to help you understand how it works.

  1. There is an optimum consumption pattern for each restaurant and significant savings can be generated if one sticks to that, without affecting the comfort of staff and customers.
  2. Our algorithm studies your consumption over a month and identifies which activities done for what duration help you stick to your pattern
  3. We then give you a consolidated result of actionable and very simple steps to help you stick to this regime

For example for one of our clients -

  • We captured the daily consumption and number of hours of appliance usage, including on/off time for one of our clients. When we started analysing the pattern we figured that their day to day consumption varied by more than 20% while the number of meals served remained more or less the same. Even Monday’s of every week of the same month varied more than they should. This meant that there were days when the staff would do just about everything right while not compromising with the quality and quantity of meals served.
  • Our algorithm automatically analysed the daily consumption and appliance usage pattern to identify the most optimal day of power consumption. Based on this, we suggested that if they follow the below regime they can save Rs. 4,927 per month translating to a 6% reduction in their energy bills -
    1. Start cleaning the restaurant at 9:15 Hours
    2. Turn on major loads such as the AC from 10:45AM to 10:15PM
    3. Finish up cleaning by 12:30AM
    4. Carry out non-time sensitive activities such as baking bread from 2:00PM to 2:30PM to benefit from lower pricing during those hours
  • By comparing their current day’s versus their best power day, we send daily emails and alerts when the consumption is higher than optimal. One of our clients was able to identify if the variation was due to increased AC runtime or their setup and cleaning taking more than the usual time. By staying informed they were able to take corrective measures to fall back to their best power day.
